The Sound of Alarm

Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand. -Joel 2:1

There is the noise and clamor of man-made religion, mechanical activity, and obligatory service. But it brings no admonition for holy fear that drives us to depart from evil and to shake off the sloth and worlds dust. Devoid of the breath and Spirit of God it can produce no passion for God and for His holiness, only but a noisy gong and clanging cymbal. Lukewarmness seems to be the order of the day by and large and very content therewith.

Joshua attending Moses coming down the mountain said it was the noise of war. The aged prophet of God coming from the glory of the presence said quite to the contrary, not so my son, it’s the sound of partying. Moses had been up the mountain shut in with God in the cloud of His Glory while the multitude was fornicating and dancing around the golden calves of the world. Are we playing or praying today? are we at war or dancing around the golden calf’s? Can we hear the sound of alarm and the call to weep between the porch and the alter and to make intercession

n for the perishing?

The apostle Paul admonished "For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?" (1 Cor. 14:8) Do we have ears to hear and discern the difference between the trumpet of man and the trumpet of God from heaven? No need for flattering words and smooth sayings of the lying prophets, we need a certain sound, clearly calling us to prepare for battle, prepare for His coming, preparing us to meet our God, and that we might be counted worthy to escape all these things at the door that are about to fall upon all the earth dwellers. Let us hear the sound of the trumpet from the holy mountain of our God. God grant us ears to hear and a heart to heed this our day!
